5 Fun Winter Activities to Do With Your Family

While Florida is known for its summer sunshine, it’s also a great place to be in the winter. On most winter days, you can still do activities that are reserved for warmer seasons in other states. If you’re looking for something to do with the family during the winter, Florida is the perfect place to be. Here are a few ideas of ways to make memories with your children during winter break:

Have a Beach Day

The water isn’t frozen over, so why not have a beach day? Take the family out for a picnic, building sand castles or playing some beach volleyball. You can make a whole day of it without worrying about the heat becoming too much. Just remember that sunscreen is still necessary in the colder temperatures.

Explore a State Park

Visiting state parks is generally considered a summer activity. However, here in Florida, visiting state parks is more ideal in the winter. Take the family out for hiking, bird watching or taking nature photos during the season when it’s not too hot for the animals to be active. Visit the manatees at Blue Spring State Park, which are most active from November-April.

Visit a Theme Park

If you want to go somewhere that’s decked out for the holidays, there’s no better place to go than a theme park. Many of them have special holiday events, but if you’re not looking to splurge on an extra ticket, you can view the decorations any time in November or December.

Attend a Holiday Festival

Long lines and thrill rides may not be your family’s style. If you prefer a more lowkey winter activity, look out for a local holiday festival. Since you can spend time outside all winter, there’s something going on most weekends in November and December. Check out a local light display or holiday parade. See if there are any winter markets with local vendors.

Go on a Sunset Cruise

There’s no denying that Florida has beautiful sunsets in the winter. Going on a sunset cruise can be a great way to get out and be adventurous while enjoying the comforts of a nice boat. It also allows you to get away from the hustle and bustle of holiday activities with the family. Enjoy a nice, peaceful day together that ends with riding off into the sunset.
